3000 Shipping Instructions / CIS Removal
CIS Removal
(Please read entire instructions before starting.)
Step 1. Open the top cover of your printer so you can access the ink cartridges. Please make sure the machine is off and unplugged.
Step 2. Open the cover on the ink bottle container and push the blue or white clips to the closed position. This will stop ink flow in either direction.
Step 2b. This is an important step. If you do not have the plastic clips please order a set from InkJet Specialists.
Step 3. Gently remove the ink supply tubes from the clip or clips that are holding them in position, including the clip on the cartridge carrier.
Step 3b. Be careful not to pull the ink supply tubes off the cartridges.
Step 4. Move the carrier to the correct position so that you can remove the cartridges. This can be accomplished in a number of different ways. Most Epson units have a plastic carrier locking device that moves into locked position when the machine is turned off. This lock can be manually pushed out of the locked position. Refer to photo below.
Step 4b. Newer Epson models have a change cartridge button. Pressing this button will force the cartridge carrier to move to the change ink cartridge position. Once the carrier has moved to this position, unplug the printer. If you do it this way, DO NOT remove the tubes from the clips or close the lines with the white or blue clips until you have unplugged the printer, then proceed with steps 2 and 3 above.
Step 5. Place an absorbent material on the ink bottle container and place the cartridges on it. Position cartridges with ink exit ports facing up. Wipe off any excess ink and tape the ink exit ports closed. Cartridge end plugs can be purchased from InkJet Specialists. Now unclamp all ink lines so as not to permanently crimp the lines. (3 pictures below)
Step 6. Now turn your printer on and wait for all movement to stop before turning it off. This will purge any ink off the cap assembly and re-lock the printer mechanism. Carefully pack your printer in a box at least the size of the box it originally came in. Use packing material to secure the printer within the box. Be sure to enclose your name, phone number and problem, samples are always nice, that you are having with the machine.
To Re-Install Your System
The print heads in your machine have been purged after the final print check so it will not be necessary to use a cleaning cartridge prior to installing your system.
1. Turn your printer on. The ink out lights will be on. Now press and hold the cleaning button or change ink button until the carrier moves to the change cartridge position. Unplug your printer.
2. Reclamp the ink lines with the blue or white clips if you had unclamped them earlier. Re-install your cartridges and place the ink tubes back into their guide clips.
3. This might be a good time to re-fill any near empty ink bottles. NEVER fill a bottle more than 3/4 full.
4. Push all clips to the open position. (Unclamp). See photo.
5. Plug your printer back in and it will run a cleaning cycle. It will be necessary to run a number of cleaning cycles to get the heads re-filled with ink. Run nozzle checks until you are satisfied with the result. Multiple head cleanings can lead to ink foaming within the cartridge leading to erratic nozzle checks. Let the machine sit for a couple of hours before running another nozzle check.
Getting your 3000 Ready to Ship
IMPORTANT! Remove knob on left side of machine.
Step 1. Remove and keep the following parts: The plastic roll cover, the piece I am holding in the picture and the paper tray. Paper tray removal is covered below.
Step 2. The really important step 2. Purging the ink system. Turn the machine on and wait for it to stop making noise. Open the ink door and remove all the ink carts. Close the ink door and turn your machine off. It will run for 30 seconds and then shut off.
To remove the paper tray, remove your printer cable or Ethernet cable. Gently lift the front of machine and place machine on its back. Grab and hold the paper tray so machine does not fall over. Using a flat bladed screw driver or similar tool release the tray locks. Now that you have released the tray stops just pull the tray out and put it in a safe place.
Pack the machine in the original box if you have it. If not, be sure and pack the machine in a box with packing that will protect it during transit. We recommend UPS Ground shipping not red or blue Second Day. The box gets handled too much. Insure the machine for $1500. Fedex is also not one of our favorites due to too much handling. These machines get air sick.
Sending the Pro 5000
Remove the ink carts and place them with the little hole facing up. This is the end that goes into the machine first. There is no ink purge for the Pro 5000.
If you have the original box please use it. If you have to use a replacement box make sure that it is twice as big as the machine. Secure it in this box with approved packing material so that it is not moving around in the box.
Only send the paper tray if it is broken, white guide rollers missing, EST.
If your machine is attached to the optional lower feed unit, be sure to separate the 5000 from this unit before shipping. If the feed unit is malfunctioning send it along in a separate box. Insure the machine for $3,000. Ship via ground only.
